Candida Relief For Your Pet

yeast-kitNatural Candida Remedy: Total-Biotics® and Oxy-pH Boost™

Fighting candida and yeast in your pet is a two fold process:

Total-Biotics® helps to reseed the gut with good guy bacteria while Oxy-pH Boost™ helps enhance the implantation of the probiotics and helps fight bacteria.

Oxy-pH Boost™ for Pets is a very concentrated liquid that must be diluted. Mix 1-2 drops of Oxy-pH Boost™ for Pets liquid (per each 20 lbs. of your pet’s body weight) in 1/2 ounce of water. Use a dropper or oral syringe. Take the mixed solution carefully squirt the mixture into the pets mouth along the pet’s tooth line and not down the throat. Avoid choking and getting fluid in the lungs. In addition put 1-2 drops per 20 pounds of your pet’s body weight in the water bowl twice a day.

When you use Total-Biotics® on your pet’s food you must double the normal dose to help get the yeast under control. That is two scoops of Total-Biotics® per cup of food, when you feed your pet. Remember just like with humans do not use Oxy-pH Boost™ for pets right with the probiotics. Try to wait at least two hours before or after using Oxy-pH Boost™.

Topical use for pets:

To use Oxy-pH Boost™ topically: mix 2 drops with 1/4 cup of water. Then dip on a cotton ball or small gauze and use on the area that needs to be treated. Or use this solution in a small spray bottle, then blot off excess. For pets this formula can be used on the ears, bellies, or where there might be a bug bite or irritation on the skin. Do not use full strength, always dilute in water. Continue three times a day until condition clears up.

Candida and Your Pet

candida in petsCandida can be a serious problem in pets due to the same environmental factors that are largely responsible for the epidemic in humans: frequent use of antibiotics, high stress level and high sugar intake. In pets suspected of suffering from candida overgrowth, look for evidence of similar symptoms as demonstrated in humans.

WHAT MIGHT BE THE SYMPTOMS OF CANDIDA

1. Fatigue / lethargy
2. Bloating / digestive upset
3. Skin conditions-irritation
4. Inflammation dermatitis
5. Immuno-suppressed and frequent bacterial infections
6. Urinary / bladder infections

THERE ARE MANY CAUSES:

1. Poor diet
2. Nutrients that are not bioavailable to the body
3. Over use of antibiotics
4. No probiotic back-up
5. Stress
6. Vaccines/medicines
7. Flea preparations

There are 3 types of yeast infections:

Superficial (most common) – characterized by inflammation of tissue linings, i.e. skin, GI tract, pharynx, upper and lower respiratory tract etc.

Locally invasive – i.e. pneumonia, cystitis, esophagitis, the most common being ulcerations of the intestinal, respiratory or genitourinary tract.

Systemic – an invasive infection, characterized by lesions of the heart, kidneys, liver, spleen, lung, brain and other organs. It is one of those organisms, like bacteria and parasites, that need a host (your pet) in order to live.

Pancreatitis In Your Pet

Why did my Veterinarian get a false positive on my pet’s test for pancreatitis?

This question comes up often, so we thought it’d be a good idea to post some information on false positives and why they sometimes come up on your pet’s pancreatitis test.

enzymes and probiotics for petsEnzymes are circulating throughout your pet’s body. And they should be! If you are using a good quality enzyme product like Total-Zymes® for pets though, the pancreatitis test may detect the presence of those enzymes as a false positive. Why? Because we use a formula that is highly effective and that works systemically in your pet’s body. This is a good thing. These enzymes help not only to digest food but also to control and reduce allergies in your pet. The good thing is most vets know to ask if you are giving your pet digestive enzymes. This way they know that enzyme levels may show up high, which can be completely normal if you are giving your pet an enzyme supplement. The best thing to do is stop all enzyme supplementation five days before the test- so you get a proper test reading. You can still can use probiotics however, as these do not effect enzyme levels.

Another Fantastic Success Story!

Last week, again, we got an AMAZING success story! This time e-mailed in to us by Julie Noble. All of us here at NWC Naturals Pet Products would like to take this opportunity to thank you Julie, and all of our loyal customers who have sent your success stories in. We realize it takes time on your part to type out such extensive testimonials, and we’d like to thank you for allowing us to share each and every one of your stories with our entire customer base! We really do appreciate it.

Julie’s letter to us read as follows:

Hello Dr. John,

Regarding the success we’ve had with Total-Zymes®, please allow me to give you a brief story about our shepherds. Emma Joon and Brody are littermates and will be 3 years old on the 23rd of this month, and we’ve had them since they were 7 1/2 weeks old. When Brody was about 8 months old he was officially diagnosed with severe hip dysplaysia in his left hip and a mild case in his right. Since he was too old for the surgery that can be done on really young dogs and too young for hip replacement, we opted to have the vet perform FOS surgery on him because he was in so much pain and couldn’t wait till he was two for the hip replacement. For the first year, his healing progress was very slow. He favored the left side and continued to limp for the whole first year or so. Our prayer then was that he healed quickly to avoid any unnecessary strain on the other side. We were afraid the right side would get worse since it was bearing all of the weight. But thankfully, that didn’t happen. Emma shows not evidence of dysplaysia yet and is as agile as a cat. She’s very athletic and has the hind quarter muscle appearance of a fine quarter horse. She is very fast and never stops.

Emma Joon and Brody

Emma Joon and Brody

Around about July of 2010 (they were 15 mos old at that time), I decided to start both of them on Glucosamine and chondroitin. After talking with a friend of mine who is a licensed nutritionist and is very knowledgeable in animal nutrition as well, I started them on Glucosamine Sulfate…1000mg/day(1 capsule 2x/day w/a.m. & p.m. meals); and a Collagen supplement at 700mg/day (1 capsule 2x/day a.m. & evening meals). I also give them 500mg L-Carnitine per day (1 tablet 2x/day am & pm) for heart health and fat metabolism. I also opted to put them on a grain free diet and started them on Precise Brand “Foundation” kibble. And upon the recommendation of our vet, particularly for Brody, they started getting Omega 3 Fish oil for pets at about this time as well. They also get a wide variety of grain-free treats with varying protein, carbohydrate, vegetable and fruit sources every day. They also get lots of raw veggies and fruits as snacks too. So you see, they have quite an extensive diet regimen. Well, I got to thinking about all this complexity and wondered if they were indeed getting the most out of what they were eating and did some research on digestive enzymes. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the information I found on your site petenzymes.com.  So I bought the little chewable Total-Zymes® Plus™ which I give them with their treats every night. Mostly for the digestive enzyme part but the probiotic part is a bonus. Long story short, about 6 months after I started them on the Total-Zymes® powder, I started noticing a marked difference in Brody….he wasn’t limping anymore and wasn’t favoring his FOS hip either. I also notice more energy, and strength as well as a leaner physique in both of them. Not that Emma Joon NEEDs anymore energy, but it was wonderful to watch her stamina. All in all, I am very pleased with the results I’ve seen and will continue to use Total-Zymes® powder and Total-Zymes® Plus™ tabs for as long as you keep making them.

So thank you very much, Dr. John. I look very forward to learning about new products you come up with in the future.

Most sincerely,

Julie, Emma Joon, and Brody Noble

Should I Choose Animal or Vegetarian Enzymes For My Pet?

There are countless digestive enzyme products on the market today. Does it matter which ones you choose for your pet? Are all digestive enzymes the same? Following we will give a brief overview of the two most popular types of digestive enzymes available: Animal and Vegetarian. Secondly, we will discuss the impact that each of these products has on your pet’s digestive tract and it’s body as a whole.

probiotics for caninesAnimal Enzymes: Animal-based enzymes are extracted from the pancreatic tissue of slaughtered pigs and cows.

Vegetarian: Plant-based enzymes are derived from whole food sources including pineapple, papaya and mushroom-based fermentation.

So how do these enzymes effect my pet?

The high pH environment of the small intestine is the only place animal-based enzymes can function, as they are extremely sensitive to low pH ranges. This means that animal based enzymes may not survive outside of this environment. Plant-based enzymes are not destroyed by the acidic conditions of the stomach and, therefore, are stable in the upper stomach where they can begin processing food immediately.

Will my pet experience any side effects when taking digestive enzymes?

There are no side effects associated with vegetarian enzymes.

Digestive enzymes like pancreatin, trypsin, chymotrypsin, ox bile, and hydrochloric acid are all harvested from animals and can cause negative side effects as well as other major health problems. A warning label on one pancreatic enzyme product read: High doses may cause diarrhea, cramping, or vomiting. If you observe any of these reactions, contact your veterinarian immediately. If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately. Precautions: Do not use in animals hypersensitive (allergic) to pork products. The powder may irritate or burn the skin on contact. Wash immediately if you get any on your skin or your pet’s skin. Wash hands after handling this medication.

Is this something you would give to your pet?

The Solution?

live enzyme activated delivery systemLook for a vegetarian enzyme product that utilizes a mineral delivery system. Total-Zymes® contains L.E.A.D.S.® Live Enzyme Activated Delivery System® which supplies all the enzymes and cofactors necessary to enhance digestion and delivery. Other formulas not utilizing L.E.A.D.S.® will strip minerals and other nutrients from the body in their effort to activate the enzymes.

Do Pets Need Enzymes?

Enzymes are present in every cell in both plants and animals, and are responsible for regulating the biochemical reactions necessary to sustain life. By using a supplemental enzyme on your pets’ food, you free up their body’s digestive system. When enzymes are missing from our pets food, the full burden of digestion falls on the pet’s own digestive system.

For a high quality formula look for high quality ingredients and the way they are manufactured. Side Effects of Probiotics and Enzymes In Pets

Most animals do not experience side effects, but it can happen. Probiotics and or enzymes sometimes can cause nausea or vomiting. Why? When the health of an animal has been compromised for some time, things can start out worse before getting better. This happens in a few pets. Just like people they can have a “cleansing” or a “healing crisis”. Experiencing digestive upset with probiotic or enzyme use can sometimes be related to the feeding of a poor quality commercial pet food that is hard to break down and digest. What happens is the food you feed your pet moves slowly through the intestines allowing some fecal plaque to adhere to your dog’s intestinal walls.

Once it gets a toehold, it may thicken over time. Even fairly young animals can experience some blockage as a result of this build up. Probiotics and enzymes will slowly begin to dissolve the fecal matter, and during this clearing/cleansing process, pathogens and microbes that were covered up with layers of fecal matter will be exposed and can cause episodes of diarrhea or vomiting. Depending on the buildup, it may take a few months before it is completely removed. To help restore your animal’s health and happiness we suggest a healthier, more digestible diet and reducing the dosage of probiotics and enzymes to a level tolerated by your animal, building back up gradually as your animal begins to feel better.  Sometimes adding enzymes can act like a food change, so work it in slowly if you need to.
